TribeLife
Welcome to TribeLife!
We are a cluster of humans gathering each week to share life, to inspire one another, and to individually and boldly make the choice to become a difference maker in our world.
Let’s consider today an intro to TribeLife. When I say Tribe I'm talking about "your people.” The ones who bring life and color to your world. Culturally, Tribe is a hot word these days and we have different “tribes" for everything in our lives ranging from Fitness Tribes, Work Tribes, {insert favorite TV show or movie} Tribes. There are so many places to “belong” and honestly, I love it. I have lots of tribes I identify with.
But when I talk about TribeLife I’d like to invite you a few steps deeper, into knowing and being known. It is no easy thing to remove the conscious and subconscious barriers we put up in order to protect ourselves from others. And really, in our protecting ourselves from other people we are really just protecting our heart from pain, disappointment, rejection, and the likes there of.
But we were made to journey together. It’s on the journey of knowing and being known that we discover who we are—and that discover helps to shape our destiny. When we live isolated our accuracy starts to blur. Who you are and what you offer the world can start to close in (and not in the best ways). A healthy tribe can call out the best in you and spur you on toward your strengths.
I believe our lives have been created with void spaces specifically to be filled by tribe. Parts of our destiny lie within others and this is why it is important to find your tribe.
You should never suppress who you are, rather, put yourself in a community of people who have permission to help you become the best version of yourself. The type of people who will help to soften your hard edges, to give you a broader perspective on matters, to help you craft your words so that they are filled with grace, and to challenge your judgements while encouraging you to show mercy. This is a tribe. Odds are that in this kind of tribe there will be a mixture of all races, ages, genders, shapes, and sizes. Yet, the most beautiful part is seeing how each is walking out their own journey and seeing how lives intersect at so many points along the route.
In tribe there is no competition! Because of the investment we are all making into each other‘s lives, a win for one is a win for all. That feeling of competitiveness is natural and it happens to ALL of us—but the difference is that in tribe, there is a safe place to talk about it. It's all about approaching the conversation with the goal of connection.
It's in these types of communities, where you no longer have to “fit in,” that you have the permission to be the real you. The you who is continually growing in love, patience, goodness, kindness, self-control, and tenderness.
So today, I challenge you evaluate who is around you. Who is getting most of your attention? Grab a piece of paper and a pen, a laptop, or your phone and jot down the people who are in your tribe. Then take a moment to sit in the gratitude that begins to rise in your heart as you think about each name on the list—grateful that you would be so lucky to have each one in your life.
You are the best!
See you next Tuesday!
